MNO School Food Program
Program Overview
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) School Food Program provides direct financial assistance to support food security for Métis families and independent youth in the K-12 school system. Through this initiative, eligible applicants will receive $400 in grocery gift cards per child to help ensure students have access to nutritious food to support their learning.
This program aligns with the MNO’s commitment to improving food security and supporting the well-being of Métis children, youth, and families.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the MNO School Food Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must live in Ontario and be a verified Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizen or have a child who is an MNO citizen
- The child(ren) or youth for whom support is requested must be enrolled in K-12 (Kindergarten through Grade 12) in Ontario.
- Parents or guardians may apply on behalf of the child(ren) and youth in the household. A single application must include all eligible children in the family.
- Métis youth aged 16 to 18 who are currently enrolled in school may apply independently for support, but they must not have been included in a family application.
Application Process
Applicants will be required to provide:
- Proof of school enrollment for each child/youth.
- Confirmation of MNO citizenship (or proof of child’s citizenship if the parent/guardian is not an MNO citizen).
- Confirmation of household income
- Contact information and household details to verify eligibility.
Program Distribution
Approved applicants will receive $400 in grocery gift cards per eligible child in two installments. Gift cards will be distributed directly to the applicant via mail or electronic delivery, depending on availability.
