MNO Métis Youth Virtual Camp – Shrinking Sun
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is thrilled to introduce a new virtual camp series for youth aged 11-14. The Youth Virtual Camp Series is a collaborative program run by the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) and Culture and Way of Life (CWL) teams. We would like to invite Métis youth to apply to the second youth virtual camp session, “Shrinking Sun”.
This virtual camp opportunity is specifically geared towards youth ages 11-14. It will provide youth with an opportunity to learn about Métis history and learn new hands-on skills in food preservation. The youth will also learn ways to market and sell their products, offering potential avenues to earn money from their creations. Adult supervision is not required for participation. Please note that siblings who fall outside of this age range are not permitted to attend these sessions.
Each participant will receive a kit with some of the materials needed prior to the event. Some shopping on the participant's time will be required, with a stipend to be given after the event. This virtual camp is being offered on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:30 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST), with an optional follow-up drop-in session on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm EST.
To be eligible for this camp, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Parent/guardian or youth must be a Métis Nation of Ontario citizen eligible for direct benefits. (Adults are not required to be on screen or participate)
- Be a youth between 11 and 14 years of age.
- Interested in learning about Métis history and culture and willing to participate in a virtual setting.
Space for this camp is limited. Applications will be accepted from October 12, 2026, until October 19, 2026.
