Métis Early Learning Winter Family Culture Camp 2025

The Métis Nation of Ontario's Early Learning Child Care Team would like to invite Métis families to our Métis Early Learning Winter Family Culture Camp that will be held from January 30 – February 2, 2025, at the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa, ON. The Early Learning Family Culture Camp is designed to provide Métis early learners between the ages of three (3) and twelve (12), their siblings, parents/legal guardians, and grandparent(s) an opportunity to learn more about Métis culture and way of life from an early learning perspective.

At this in-person camp, Métis families will engage in activities connecting them to the land, teach early learners about their Métis culture and way of life, and connect with other Métis families across Ontario. Parents will be able to learn more about the programs and services offered through the Métis Nation of Ontario's Early Learning Child Care program.

Selected families will have their accommodation, meals, and travel covered by the MNO.

Families can bring older siblings and siblings younger than three (3) years of age to the camp. Families will have private accommodations. Each cabin can accommodate 3-6 people (two double beds and one single top bunk or three single bunk beds). Families with infants or toddlers are encouraged to bring a playpen.

To be eligible for this camp, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • One parent/guardian, grandparent(s), or child must be a Métis Nation of Ontario citizen eligible for direct benefits. Grandparents applying to attend camp with their grandchild(ren) must have written consent from the parent/guardian of the child(ren) attending.
  • Have at least one (1) child or grandchild between 3-12 years old.
  • Two (2) adults are required to attend the entire duration of camp and actively participate in camp activities. No more than two (2) adults per family are permitted to attend.
  • Interested in learning about Métis history and culture and willing to participate in indoor/outdoor learning.

Space for this camp is limited. Applications will be accepted until November 8, 2024 at 8:00 am EST. Applicants will be notified via email by November 18, 2024, of their acceptance to camp or if they have been placed on the waitlist. Preference will be given to families who have not attended a past in-person camp.
